THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES(proper name)
Stars & Stripes, Old Glory, American Flag(nicknames)

Below is a brief overview of the design characteristics that inspired me to create this graphic image. As designers we love to explore and seek out the construction of things, looking for different ways to express their brilliance. Often I find myself learning a ton of new information that grows my knowledge base in ways I didn't expect, and I really love that about design in general.

When I set out to create an American themed graphic, I immediately thought of the flag.  As I researched the flag I landed on the concept of a kind of deconstructing the unique elements that we see, to their foundation, and then building them up again in a new way.  I am pleased with the finished piece. I feel it is a good representation of the inner qualities we might take for granted everyday. I very much like the texture and depth that was created by the use of text and wording layout. I chose not to "book end" the text, instead it would fly on beyond the edge of the flag, in the Spirit of the Eternal Word. It also lends itself nicely to be appealing to designers.

And with no further a do, the specifics:

There are rules regarding the colors. The colors have specific shades. The three colors are white, old glory red and old glory blue. There are also meanings assigned to the colors and design elements, as well as rules and guidelines for care. For example, the flag has waking and sleeping hours, which is more than I can say for myself.

The current flag was designed by a high school student, a 17-year-old Robert G. Heft, Lancaster High in Ohio, for a project. That's pretty good inspiration right there.

The flag on a whole stands for Freedom, Unity, and prosperity.
